About my Custom

1982 West Coast Cobra / Kellison Stallion chassis/body.

Charlie Bruno of Charlies Mustangs in San Jose, CA passed away back in 2001.  He was a good friend of mine.  Among is possessions was this car; which he bought in kit form new back in 1982.  His business took off, and he never found time to work on his own personal project...so it sat.  Sometimes indoors, sometimes out.  It moved to 3 buildings that I know of...and probably a lot more I don't.  Anyway, after his passing, I purchased the car from his estate and began the 6yr journey to build the monster Cobra of my (and Charlies, I hope) dreams.  Much of this was constructed in my 2-car garage, ferreting parts back and forth to the machine shop at my day job.

So here it is, I hope you enjoy looking at it.

Ford 429, forged crank, billet rods, forged pistons, 7.8:1 compression, Ported Blue Thunder Heads with the big valve option and chevy exhaust ports, Solid Roller 242/256@.050 on 114, Custom SEFI / Vortech Centrifugal with functional nacaduct inlet, custom ceramic coated exhaust/side pipes, Dodge Viper 6spd, custom brakes (Corvette 13" rotors, Dodge Viper calipers in all 4 corners), custom CCW wheels, 275's up front, 390's out back, all custom digital touch-screen dash.  Dash has an on-off switch, a ROCK ME button (start) from a pinball machine, and everything else is controlled via custom software running on the 12.1" touch-screen display.  That's about it.  Oh, and 100% smog exempt and street legal in CA under the SB100 law.

Just finished the project mechanicals/body recently; will be dynoing it in July.  14mpg and 750hp at 3/4 throttle according to the datalogger...I won't know more until I get to the dyno; it's a little too nuts to floor on the street.  Blower should flow 1600+CFM the way it's currently cogged and the ports are the size of tennis balls.

Byron
